Meet Andreas Zepetes, Energy and Environment Advisor – Case Study

Andreas Zepetes, Energy and Environment Advisor shares his career development journey with Arcus and how his work helps support our customers and colleagues by reducing their energy consumption demands and carbon emissions.

How long have you been at Arcus?
I’ve been at Arcus now for a total of two years now. I first joined as an undergraduate placement student from the University of Leeds in 2019, while I was in this role I worked within the SMaRT Hub Energy Team as Weather & Climate Analyst. After returning to university to complete my undergraduate degree, I re-joined Arcus as a Graduate Energy Analyst and I have recently made the switch from the SMaRT Hub Energy Team to the Environment and Sustainability Team now working as an Energy and Environment Advisor.

What are you responsible for within your role?
I am responsible for collecting and analysing data to determine Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions and the carbon footprint of Arcus. This involves measuring and monitoring energy, carbon and other sustainability data to review trends and identify improvement opportunities to help reduce Arcus’ and our customers’ energy consumption and carbon footprint. I also provide Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) and Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR) compliance services internally for Arcus.

Furthermore, I am accountable for tracking and reporting business sustainability impact and performance against sustainability targets in relation to energy sustainability reporting and performance monitoring, including Arcus’ five-year Carbon Reduction Target and Net-Zero by 2040 Pathway. Whilst trying to achieve these targets, I am improving colleague awareness of energy efficiency, carbon reduction and net-zero.

How does your role help make a difference to our clients?
As an Energy and Environment advisor I support our customers by helping reduce their energy consumption demands and carbon emissions. This helps them to achieve their own sustainability targets and net-zero ambitions, whilst also making them aware of low-carbon intensive practices and their wider environmental impact.

Have you taken advantage of any learning and development opportunities at Arcus?
Yes, earlier this year I completed a sustainable manufacturing short course provided by Aston University and I am currently looking into becoming an ESOS Low Carbon Consultant and then an ESOS Lead Assessor.

What’s the one thing you love the most about working at Arcus?
I love that personal development is always encouraged within Arcus. At any time where I have found a course, workshop or event that has been of interest to me and benefits my role, Arcus has encouraged me to attend. This has improved my knowledge and skillset in the field of energy and sustainability.
